LaCrosse, WIs. (Blugolds.com) -The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Women's tennis team defeated UW- La Crosse 5-4 on Oct. 6 to improve to 2-1 on the season.
The Blugolds' won two of three doubles matches giving them a 2-1 lead heading into singles action. Natalie Wijesinghe (Apple Valley, MN) paired with Emily Cooper (White Bear, Minn.) lead the way with an 8-4 win at No. one doubles. Hanna Zevenbergen (Baldwin,Wis./ Baldwin-Woodville) and Molly Stewart (Amery, Wis. followed suite with an 8-6 victory at number two doubles. With wins at the number one, two and three slots in singles action the Blugolds were able to edge out the Eagles 5-4. Wijesinghe defeated Steinert (UWL) 6-1, 6-4 at the No. one slot, while Cooper took down Clope (UWL) 2-6,6-4,6-4. Stewart sealed the Blugold vicotory with a hard fought win at No. three singles. The senior defeated Spahn (UWL) 7-6, 3-6, 7-6 .
Eau Claire is now 2-1 in conference play, and will face UW-River Falls on Wednesday October 10.
