EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team earned their first win of the season at home on Wednesday, defeating Macalester College 4-1.
The Blugolds jumped out to an early lead as Mercedes Wilson (So. – Dousman, WI/Kettle Moraine) buried her first goal of the season at the 5:05 mark.
Kayla Jedrzejewski (Fr. – New Berlin, WI/Eisenhower) added to the UW-Eau Claire lead at 37:21 as the Blugolds took a 2-0 advantage into the half.
Monica Zoellner (Sr. – East Troy, WI) added a goal of her own at 66:14 but Macalester would score a goal five minutes later. The Blugolds mounted a quick response, scoring just under a minute later to regain the three-goal lead. Mary Wilhemy (So. – Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) would tally the goal while Hannah Jacobson was credited with the assist.
For the game, Eau Claire out-shot Macalester 11-5.
Sammie Lefaive (Sr. – Coon Rapids, MN) improves to 1-2 on the season in goal and added two more saves to bring her season tally to 12.
