By Nick Hoven, UWEC Sports information

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. ( - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team looked to bounce back on the road after losing their first game of the at home by just one goal. The Blugolds made the trip across the state border over to St. Paul where they looked to get back on track against the Macalester College Scots but fell in overtime, 1-0.

Box Score

The first half started in favor of the Blugolds by getting three shots at the net by Bailee Hyde (So./Medina, MN), who has already tallied one goal on the year. Shortly after, it would be the Eau Claire goalkeeper, Sammie Lefaive (Sr./Coon Rapids, MN) who would step up and make back to back saves to keep the game scoreless. As the first half concluded, both teams would be tied at two shots on goal, but no goals to result from them.

The second half would see much of the same back and forth action with Lefaive once again allowing nothing past her. Hyde led the attack for the Blugolds in this game finishing with four shot attempts and two on goal. But with both teams playing a fast-paced passing game, neither could find the back of the net and the contest would head to a golden goal overtime.

The Blugolds, however, found themselves on the wrong side of the whistle multiple times. During both the first and second half, Eau Claire was called for a total of nine fouls. Those unwanted calls would come back to haunt them in the overtime period.

Just two minutes into the overtime, Eau Claire committed a foul that allowed Macalester to take a free kick. The free kick would be crossed in and ended up being put in off the head of a Scot and into the net to end the game.

The Blugolds will enjoy a few days off as the school finally kicks off on Wednesday, but will head back to Bollinger Fields for two weekend games on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
