LINCOLN, Neb. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling competed at the Nebraska Wesleyan Duals on Saturday, with the coming away with two big wins and a narrow loss.
Against Nebraska Wesleyan, Eau Claire came away with a 40-15 win. Five Blugolds tallied pins in the dual:
133 - Thomas Severson (Fr. – Marathon, WI/D.C. Everest) over Ryan Smales (6:16)
141 - Jake Drexler (Fr. – Stratford, WI) over Brayden Dowding (2:30)
157 - Ryan Hannah (Fr. - Genoa, WI/Viroqua) over Dominick Moser (1:45)
174 - Evan Lawrence (So – Hugo, MN/Mehtemedi) over Matthew Fricke (1:51)
285 - Austen Hakes (So. – River Falls, WI) over Justin Hennessy (1:35)
David Dudych (So. - West Dundee, IL/Harry D. Jacobs) also tallied a victory for Eau Claire at 149, defeating Dustin Monroe by major decision, 25-14.
In their dual against Northwest Kansas Technical College, the Blugolds came up just short, falling by a score of 28-25.
Hakes and Lawrence recorded their second pins of the day while Hannah won by major decision (9-0).
The Blugolds dominated in their dual against the University of the Ozarks, winning by a score of 46-9.
Hakes and Lawrence both tallied their third pins of the day, with Hakes defeating Cameron Oliver (2:23) and Lawrence taking down Ndayambaje John (2:56).
Balconi also earned a pin (2:46), as did Schmidt (1:01), Hannah (4:22) and Drexler (1:30).
In addition, Dudych earned a tech fall (20-5, 7:00) as did Jacob Olson (So. – Isanti, MN/Cambridge-Isanti) at 197 pounds (17-2, 2:23).
