SUPERIOR, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team tallied their 12th win on Friday night, defeating UW-Superior 4-1 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.
The Yellowjackets may have struck first at the 10:22 mark of the first period, but Courtney Wittig (Sr. - Green Bay, WI/Bay Port) wouldn't let the lead last as she scored her 15th goal of the season just ten seconds later.
In the second, Morgan Zirbel (So-Green Bay, WI/Ashwaubenon) would put the Blugolds ahead with a goal at 15:24 and Eau Claire would never look back.
The third period was all Blugolds, as Taylor Treu (So. – Wausau, WI/West) and Holly Turnbull (Sr-Hayward, WI) each tallied goals to secure their second WIAC win. Treu's goal was her first of her career while Turnbull notched her fifth of the season.
Eau Claire outshot Superior 39-18 in the contest, holding the Yellowjackets to only six shots on goal in each period. Erin Connolly (Jr. - Mequon, WI/Homestead) picked up win number 10 on the season in goal, recording 17 saves.
