Men's Tennis Opens Season against Division I Opponent

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. ( – The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team started its new season a day later than originally planned, facing NCAA Division I South Dakota State University at home on the Olson Indoor Courts today.


The Blugolds played a few close matches but won just one as South Dakota State was victorious, 8-1.

Freshman Josh Chuba (Elk River, Minn.) had the Blugolds' lone victory as he won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.

While the Blugolds lost all three doubles matches, two were closely played as the Blugolds' No. 2 pair fell 9-8 and the No. 1 duo lost 8-6.

Eau Claire starts the year 0-1 while South Dakota State improves to 3-2.

Next Friday the Blugolds will be in Illinois to face Wheaton College (Ill.) and Judson University (Ill.) at the Centre Court Athletic Club in Hanover Park. They will take on Wheaton at 1 p.m. and will then face Judson at about 5 p.m.
