EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team defeated the Gustavus Adolphus College Gusties 4-0 on Friday night at Hobbs Ice Center.
The Blugolds have been waiting for Todd Koritzinsky (Sr. – Verona, WI) to get things going, and he did just that in this one scoring the first goal of the night after a Gustie turnover behind the net. The senior forward found the back of the net for the second time on the season to make it 1-0 not even two minutes into the first period.
UW-Eau Claire added to their lead on a goal scored by Johnny Mueller (Jr. - St. Peters, MO) on a shot from the point to make it 2-0 with 11:19 left in the opening period. Kyle Lee (Sr. – Wausau, WI) and Koritzinsky were credited with the assists.
Gustavus Adolphus found their legs in the second half of the period to create some scoring chances. They would lead 12-11 in shots on goal after one period of play. The Blugolds would lead 14-10 in faceoff wins.
The Blugolds would make it 3-0 on a misplayed puck by goaltender Chris Amsden that ended up in the back of the net off the stick of Jake Bresser (So. – Eau Claire, WI) just under four minutes into the second period.
Lee would add a late power-play goal in the third period on a deflection in front of the net to take it to the final score of 4-0. Austin Redders (Fr. - McFarland, WI) and Tyler Hart (Jr. – Woodbury, MN) were credited with the assists on the goal.
Zach Dyment (Fr. - Abbotsford, BC) made his second start in net on the season and saved all 24 shots he saw on the night to improve to 1-1. The freshman netminder now has a save percentage of .945 and a goals allowed average of 1.5.
The Blugolds (9-6-0, 1-1-0) will look to build a winning streak as they return to Hobbs for a game with Concordia-Moorhead tomorrow night.
