EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Head Coach Matt Loen and the UW-Eau Claire men’s ice hockey team have released the Blugolds’ 2015-16 schedule.
The Blugolds will open the season on the road on October 30 in Appleton, Wis. as they will play Lawrence University and will travel to Aurora, Ill. on October 31 to play Aurora University.
Eau Claire’s home opener will be November 6 and will host Saint Mary’s of Minnesota.
“The atmosphere at Hobbs Ice Arena is amazing,” said Loen. “We have great fans that make playing at home a lot of fun.”
The Blugolds will open Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play on December 3 at UW-Stout with the home WIAC opener on December 5 against UW-River Falls.
New to the schedule is Arizona State, who will host the Blugolds February 5-6 in Tempe, Arizona. The Sun Devils will compete at the NCAA Division I level for the first time in ice hockey next season. There will also be a familiar face on the ASU bench, as former Blugold All-American Alex Hicks is an assistant coach.
“Traveling to Arizona to take on ASU will be a great experience for our players,” said Loen. “It will also be a great opportunity for alumni to gather together. You can’t beat Arizona is February.”
