EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - A total of 10 UW-Eau Claire student-athletes have been recognized by being named an Athlete of the Week for the 10th week of the 2014-15 season.
Offense: Matthew Knapp, Wide Receiver, 6-0, 186, Sophomore, Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial
In a 20-17 victory over UW-Stout on Saturday, Knapp scored two touchdowns while leading the Blugolds in receiving with 125 yards on 11 catches. His first touchdown came with 6:56 left in the opening quarter on a 23-yard pass while his second touchdown came on a nine-yard pass with 39 seconds remaining in the first half.
Defense: Collin Hustad, Linebacker, 5-11, 222, Senior, Fridley, Minn./Totino Grace
With the Blugolds winning 20-17 over UW-Stout on Saturday, Hustad finished the game with four solo tackles.
Special Teams: Jake Weber, Safety, 6-1, 187, Sophomore, Durand, Wis.
Weber returned two punts for the Blugolds as they won 20-17 over UW-Stout on Saturday. He finished with a total of 13 punt return yards and also recorded three tackles during the game along with breaking up one pass.
Offense: Tara Dennehy, Forward, 5-9, Junior, Eugene, Ore./Churchill
Winning two WIAC games to allow the Blugolds to finish third in the league this week, Dennehy scored one of the game-winners, a 3-2 overtime victory over UW-River Falls on Saturday. It was her fifth goal of the season. The Blugolds also won 1-0 over UW-Stout on Wednesday. Dennehy finished the week with nine shots, four of them on-goal.
Defense: Ashley Seymour, Midfielder, 5-4, Junior, Verona, Wis./Verona Area
Seymour and the Blugold defense allowed just three goals in two games as the Blugolds beat two conference opponents this week. In a 3-2 overtime win over UW-River Falls on Saturday, the Blugolds allowed just 10 shots, six on-goal, while defending against five corner kicks. In a 1-0 win Wednesday over UW-Stout, the Blugolds faced 16 shots, only three of which were on-goal, and defended against five corner kicks. Seymour also had two assists in the game against UW-River Falls, the tying goal with less than two minutes to play and the game-winner in overtime.
Offense & Defense: Kelly Riesgraf, Middle Hitter, 5-11, Junior, Chaska, Minn.
Riesgraf, playing in three matches and 11 sets, had a good week both offensively and defensively for the Blugolds as the team finished with a 1-2 record. She led the team with 19 total blocks, coming from 18 assists and one solo block. She also had 31 kills, second most on the team, with a team-high hitting percentage of .347. In a 3-0 victory over UW-Stout on Wednesday, Riesgraf had a career-high 10 block assists to lead the team. Saturday in a 3-2 loss to UW-Oshkosh, she had a career-high 18 kills, second most on the team.
Women’s Swimming & Diving
Swimming: Lisa Reed, Senior, Duluth, Minn./East
Facing Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) on Saturday, Reed won the 1,000-yard freestyle, recording a time of 11:04.55. She also finished second in the 500 freestyle in 5:27.28.
Diving: Amanda Baker, Junior, Hudson, Wis.
Baker swept both diving events against Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) on Saturday, winning the one-meter and three-meter boards with scores of 270.6 and 293.1 points, respectively. The scores in both events were good enough to allow Baker to qualify for the NCAA Regionals.
Men’s Swimming & Diving
Swimming: Thomas Hensen, Sophomore, Delafield, Wis./Kettle Moraine
In a 148-139 win over Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) on Saturday, Hensen won the 100-yard backstroke in 56.06 seconds and the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.84.
Sydney Schneider, Forward, 5-5, Freshman, Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi
Playing in two games this week to open the 2014-15 season, Schneider scored her first collegiate goal Saturday against Bethel University (Minn.) on Saturday. Her goal was one of two for the Blugolds and was the first of the season for Eau Claire. She finished with two shots on the weekend.
