MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire men's hockey forward Adam Knochenmus (Roseau, Minn.), and women's hockey forward Lexi Wilson (Eagan, Minn.) have both been named WIAC Athletes of the Week, it was announced today by WIAC Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations Matt Stanek.
Against UW-River Falls on Jan. 19, Knochenmus scored a power play goal in the second period and in the third period assisted on a goal to help the Blugolds to a 4-2 win. In a 3-2 defeat at UW-Stevens Point on Jan. 20, he scored a goal in the third period to bring UW-Eau Claire within a goal.
Wilson helped the Blugolds to a sweep over UW-Superior during the week. She had two goals on five shots, including the game winner in a 4-1 victory on Jan. 21. Wilson scored the go-ahead goal with just under five minutes to go in the second period and went on to net another goal mid-way through the third period.
The women's hockey team is back on the ice at UW-Stevens Point on Friday Jan. 27. The men's hockey team is in action tonight Jan. 24 at St. Olaf (Minn.) and play at UW-Stout on Thursday Jan. 26, and finish the week at home on Saturday Jan. 28 against UW-Superior.
