SUPERIOR, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The 16th-ranked UW-Eau Claire volleyball team picked up another conference victory by trouncing UW-Superior 3-0 tonight at Mortorelli Gym at Superior.
The Blugolds came out firing during the match, winning the early sets 25-16 and 25-12. The final set was a closer contest, but the Blugolds ended the set and the match with a 25-23 final score.
The victory improves the Blugolds to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in WIAC play while the Yellowjackets drop to 3-12 on the season and 0-3 in the conference.
Eau Claire players recorded the match-high statistics in kills, digs and assists. Rachel Ver Voort (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Middleton) led the players with 16 kills and tied Blair Murphy (Sr.-Hermantown, Minn.) with 11 digs. Amanda Lessner (Sr.-Watertown, Wis.) and Emily Neave (So.-Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) tallied the most assists with 28 and 14, respectively.
The Blugolds have over a week-long break until the next scheduled match. On Friday, Oct. 1 the team will travel to play conference opponent UW-Platteville. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
