STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – This weekend, the UW-Eau Claire men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed at two last chance meets in preparation for the 2013 NCAA Championships. Friday a few Blugolds were at UW-Madison and Saturday a larger group competed at UW-Stevens Point.
At Stevens Point, the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Jessie Reineck (Fr.-Greenville, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran), Erin Schoenfelder (Sr.-Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community), Brooke Patterson (So.-Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) and Steph Rouse (So.-Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) broke a school record with a time of 3:52.65 to take second place. The time was the second fastest in the WIAC this season and the sixth best in the nation. The previous school record was 3:53.95, achieved at nationals in 2007.
At the UW-Madison NCAA Qualifier on Friday, Cody Prince (So.-Appleton, Wis./North) led six Blugolds by winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.29 seconds. Carly Fehler (So.-Oak Creek, Wis.) was the lone women's representative and her top finish came in the long jump with a mark of 5.42 meters (17-9.5) as she took second.
The NCAA Division III Championships will be contested March 8-9 at North Central College in Naperville, Ill. The complete list of qualifiers will be announced Monday morning on NCAA.com.
