Women's Tennis Defeats St. Catherine 6-3

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team defeated St. Catherine University 6-3 at the Eau Claire YMCA Tennis Center today.

Eau Claire, which holds an 11-6 record, won four singles matches and two in doubles competition.

Stephanie Wolf (Fr.-Verona, Wis./Verona Area) lost the fewest games in singles play as she picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5.

Katie Gillman (Fr.-Red Wing, Minn.) fell in just five games in the No. 2 spot as she won 6-3, 6-2.

Taylor Heltne (So.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) and Gretchen Bachmeier (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) both played closer matches and won in super-tiebreakers at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively.

In doubles play, Bachmeier and Mary Frassetto (Fr.-Oshkosh, Wis./West) won 8-2 at No. 2 while Emily Hiebl (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./East) and Wolf picked up an 8-5 victory in the No. 3 spot.

Next up, the Blugolds will head to Northfield, Minn. to face St. Olaf College. The teams will face each other next Friday at 4 p.m.
