WIAC Swimming & Diving Championships: Three More Titles Highlight Final Day
BROWN DEER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming & diving teams claimed three more titles on the final day of the 2014 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.
Alex Card (Sr.-Prior Lake, Minn.), who had already won two titles at this year's championship, won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:01.75, the third time he won the event in his career. At the conclusion of the championship, he was named the men's Swimmer of the Meet, an honor he also won last year.
Diver Sara Axness (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) won the three-meter WIAC title with 465.30 points, becoming the first Blugold to win the event since 2000. She was named the women's Diver of the Meet, the first Blugold in history to win the honor.
Maggie Reilly (Sr.-Saint Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:10.01. It was the fourth time in the last five years a Blugold won the event.
As a team, the Blugold women took second place with 687 points while the men came in fourth place with 526.
A couple Blugold divers will now compete at the NCAA Diving Regional in Granville, Ohio, February 28-March 1. The NCAA Championship is March 19-22 and selections will be named in the coming weeks.
WIAC Swimming & Diving Championships: Card Leads Blugolds on Day Two

BROWN DEER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – One conference title highlighted the UW-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming & diving teams' time on the second day of the 2014 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.
For the second day in a row, Alex Card (Sr.-Prior Lake, Minn.) won a WIAC title as he took home the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 55.89 seconds. This is the third straight year he claimed the title in the event. While his time was just short of his own school record, it was the fastest time ever swam in the event final at the WIAC Championship.
Eau Claire came away with three other top-three finishes today as well.
In preliminaries, Emily Behrens (Sr.-Faribault, Minn.) broke her own school record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.58, taking third. Her previous school best was 1:06.83, set in 2012. In the finals, she took fifth with a time of 1:06.23.
The Blugold women are now in second place with 431 points, moving up one spot from day one, while the men are in fourth place with 350 points, dropping one spot from day one. UW-La Crosse leads the women's championship with 601 points and UW-Stevens Point leads the men's championship with 549 points.
Saturday will be the conclusion of the championship. Preliminaries get underway at 10 a.m. while the finals start at 6 p.m.
WIAC Swimming & Diving Championships: Blugolds in Third after Day One

BROWN DEER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – After day one of the 2014 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center, the UW-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming & diving teams are in third place out of six teams.
Two conference titles highlighted the Blugolds' first day at the championship.
Alex Card (Sr.-Prior Lake, Minn.) also won a title, the 200-yard individual medley, with a time of 1:51.62. It was the third straight year Card won the event.
The Blugold men also set a school record in the 400-yard medley relay as Ryan Young (Fr.-Lakeville, Minn./North), Card, Aaron Lickel (Sr.-Madison, Wis./East) and Spencer Rose (Sr.-Brookfield, Wis./Central) finished with a time of 3:25.60, in third place. The previous school record was 3:27.22, set in 1999.
Additionally, the Blugolds claimed with four other top-three finishes.
The second day of the championships will get underway at 10 a.m. Friday.
