Soccer Falls to Whitewater in Final Regular Season Match
WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Despite a last-ditch effort, the UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team fell 2-1 at UW-Whitewater this evening.
Whitewater got on the board at 29:31 in the first period and tallied another goal to boast a stout two goal lead at 82:56.
In a final comeback attempt, Allie Stone (So.-Madison, Wis./Verona Area) got the Blugolds within one score with just 15 seconds remaining. It was too little, too late however and the Blugolds ended the match with the 2-1 loss.
Though the Warhawks carried a 6-1 shot advantage into the first period, Eau Claire was only outshout 9-7 in the loss. Nina Behrenbrinker (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) guarded the net the entire 90 minutes and recorded five saves on the night.
The Blugolds drop to 10-6-3 overall and 4-3-1 in conference play. Whitewater is now 12-4-1 on the season and finished with a 6-1-1 WIAC record to claim this year's WIAC title.
Eau Claire will travel to take on UW-Oshkosh this Tuesday for the first round of the WIAC Tournament.
