EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Three UW-Eau Claire wrestlers were recently honored by being named recipients of four different team awards following the 2012-13 season.
Selected as the most valuable wrestler and freshman of the year was Nathaniel Behnke (Fr.-Bruce, Wis.). He finished the season with a 44-13 record and earned All-American honors after taking fifth at the NCAA Division III Championship. Behnke wrestled at 141 pounds and won 13 of his matches pinning his opponent.
Matt Koch (Fr.-Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong) received the Ricky Gonzales Memorial award. Koch primarily competed at 165 pounds this season but also wrestled at 174 pounds three times. He finished the season with a record of 3-27.
Named the improved wrestler was Steven Fisher (Jr.-Greenfield, Wis.), who primarily competed at 149 pounds and finished the year with a record of 11-25. A year ago he went 5-25 competing mostly at 141 pounds.
