WHEATON, Ill. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team competed at the Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational, where they finished in 24th place out of 29 teams over the weekend.
Parkside (Wis.) placed first in the event, with Messiah and UW-La Crosse rounding out the top three.
The Blugolds' best finish came from Nathaniel Behnke (Fr.-Bruce, Wis). The freshman has been leading the Blugolds all year, and he finished sixth in the 141-pound division. Behnke had four wins at the invite as he finished 4-3. He went 4-2 and advanced to the fifth place match Saturday, but came up just short 4-3 to take sixth.
Six Blugolds competed at the Wheaton Invite but Behnke was the lone Blugold to advance past Friday's rounds.
The Blugolds will have their next match next Saturday when they host UW-Eau Claire Open. Competition will begin at 9 a.m. in the McPhee Physical Education Center.
