Blugold Wrestlers Compete at Concordia Duals

MEQUON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Competing in three dual meets at the Concordia (Wis.) Duals, the UW-Eau Claire wrestling team came up with seven match victories but dropped all three duals today.

The Blugolds opened the day against host Concordia University. Four Blugolds won their matches but the team fell short 25-15.

At 141 pounds, Nathaniel Behnke (Fr.-Bruce, Wis.) won by forfeit and Steven Fisher (Jr.-Greenfield, Wis.) followed with a 9-4 win at 149 pounds.

Brandon Stradel (So.-Denmark, Wis.) then picked up an 8-3 victory at 157 pounds. Mat Rieckhoff (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest), ranked 10th at 184 pounds in NCAA Division III, won 4-2.

Against Lakeland College, three Blugolds picked up wins but the team fell 36-10. Stradel, competing at 157 pounds, won with an 8-4 decision and Rieckhoff won 8-1 at 184 pounds. Behnke also won with a 10-0 major decision at 141 pounds.

In the final dual of the day against 29th-ranked Saint John's University (Minn.), Behnke picked up the Blugolds' lone victory as the team lost 46-3. He won at 141 pounds with a score of 5-0 to win his third match of the day.

The Blugolds drop to 1-14 on the season.

Next Saturday the Blugolds will be at the Matman Invitational at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Action will get underway at 9 a.m.
