MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's gymnastics team opened the 2011-12 season competing at the Central Michigan Quad Meet this afternoon.
Eau Claire finished in fourth place with a score of 178.000 while Central Michigan, an NCAA Division I opponent, won with 192.525. Centenary College (La.), also a Division I school, took second with 187.500 while UW-La Crosse was third with 182.375.
Cece Solem (Jr.-Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley) came away with the Blugolds' best finish as she took seventh in the all-around competition with a score of 34.350.
On the balance beam, Michaela McCamey (So.-Dayton, Ohio) tied for eighth place with a score of 9.350, the Blugolds' best finish.
In the floor exercise, Molly Senske (Jr.-Eden Prairie, Minn.) had the top Blugold finish, taking ninth with a 9.400.
Other top finishes for Eau Claire were Olivia Aschenbrenner (So.-Cedarburg, Wis./Grafton) in 13th place with a 9.200 on the uneven bars while Ashley Relopez (Jr.-New Rope, Minn./Armstrong) was 16th on the vault with a score of 9.200.
Friday, the Blugolds will host the UW-Eau Claire Invite in the McPhee Physical Education Center at 6 p.m. Other teams competing at the invite will be Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.), Hamline University (Minn.), Winona State University (Minn.).
