  • Earned Bachelor's degree from Buena Vista College in 1992 and was two-sport athlete
    • Played first base on BVU's NCAA Division III national runner-up softball team in 1992
    • Member of BVU basketball team in 1990
      • Team advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament before losing to eventual national champion Hope College (Mich.)
    • GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-Region honors in softball
  • Earned Master's degree from Iowa State University in 2000 in health and human performance with an emphasis in sports administration
