COLFAX, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - To follow up its second place outing last weekend, the 20th ranked UW-Eau Claire men's cross country team earned a first place finish at the 16-team Blugold Open at the Whitetail Golf Course.
The Blugolds claimed the victory by recording an average finish of 25:59 and tallying 47 total points. Second place finisher UW-La Crosse had an average finish of 26:04 for 58 points while third place St. John's University (Minn.) racked up 92 points with a mean time of 26:14.
Individually, Eau Claire had four Blugolds place within the top 11 runners. Tom Breitbach (Sr.-Muskego, Wis.) brought home a fourth place finish with a time of 25:47 while Aaron Easker (So.-Eland, Wis./Wittenberg-Birnamwood ) recorded a 25:54 good enough for seventh place. Jeremy Kieser (Jr.-Verona, Wis.) and Max Renner (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./East) finished side-by-side in 10th and 11th places with respective times of 25:57 and 25:59. Rounding out the top 20 individuals was Michael Borglin (Jr.-Whitewater, Wis.), who crossed the line at the 26:14 mark.
The Blugolds will next race at the Drews/Neubauer Invitational at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 16. The competition, hosted by UW-La Crosse, will be held in West Salem, Wis.
