LA CROSSE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's track and field teams competed at two separate last chance meets this week in attempts to qualify or improve times for the National meet coming up next week. Blugold multi-athletes competed Tuesday and Wednesday at North Central College in Naperville, Ill., while the rest of the team competed Thursday at UW-La Crosse.
Thurgood Dennis (So.-Allouez, Wis./Notre Dame), the top seed in the NCAA Division III in both the 100-meter and 200-meter, cruised to victory in the 100-meter dash with a winning time of 10.47 seconds. He was more than .2 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
Roger Steen (So.-Luck, Wis.) solidified his spot at the National meet by taking second in the shot put with a heave of 17.03 meters. Steen currently sits eighth in the nation in the same event.
Cody Prince (So.-Appleton, Wis./North) took third in the 400-meter dash with a personal best time of 47.65 seconds. With that performance, Prince propelled himself into seventh in the national rankings.
The Blugolds were also represented at a meet at North Central College in the decathlon spanning over Tuesday and Wednesday. Patrick Swanson (Sr.-Hastings, Minn.) was the highest finisher, placing seventh with 6,230 points, tied for his career-high.
The top 20 men in each event will qualify for the National Meet next weekend in La Crosse. A complete list of names will be announced Sunday at 9 a.m. (Eastern) on NCAA.com.
