MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – One UW-Eau Claire softball player and the men's 4x400-meter relay team were selected as Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek announced today.
Softball pitcher Emma Wishau (So.-Waterford, Wis./Union) was named pitcher of the week while the 4x400-meter relay team of Jacob Dennis-Oehling (So.-Whitewater, Wis.), Cody Prince (Fr.-Appleton, Wis./North), Marty Richardson (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) and Thurgood Dennis (Fr.-Allouez, Wis./Green Bay Notre Dame) were also honored.
Wishau appeared in five out of the Blugolds' eight games during the week and finished with a 4-0 record as the Blugolds went undefeated and won the WIAC title. Pitching 29.0 innings, she struck out 16 batters, while allowing 25 hits and only seven runs, six of which were earned. On April 29, Wishau pitched in two games against UW-Whitewater to determine the conference crown. She picked up the win in the first game, pitching a complete game in a 2-1 victory, and then pitched the final two innings of the second game to earn a save in a 5-4 triumph.
Competing at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, the 4x400-meter relay team took first with a time of 3:10.75. The mark was the best time so far this season in the NCAA Division III and was just short of a school record.
