Alex Card Leads Blugolds on Final Day of NCAA Swimming & Diving Championship

SHENANDOAH, Texas (Blugolds.com) – For the second day in a row, UW-Eau Claire men's swimmer Alex Card (Jr.-Prior Lake, Minn.) earned All-American honorable mention recognition at the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship at Conroe ISD Natatorium.

Friday, Card received honorable mention All-American status for taking 10th place in the 100-yard breaststroke. Today, he finished in 10th place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a school record time of 2:01.36. He held the previous school record of 2:01.57, which he achieved just over one month ago.

Card is now a four-time All-American. Last season he was ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke to take home honorable mention accolades while he was seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke to receive first team honors.

Also competing today at the championship was Nick Badilla (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./North) in the three-meter dive. He finished in 18th place with 445.35 points. He ends his career with the Blugolds as a three-time All-American as he received honorable mention recognition in both 2010 and 2011.

As a team, the Blugolds finished in 35th place with 14 points. Kenyon College (Ohio) won is 32nd national championship with 499.50 points.

SHENANDOAH, Texas (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire men's swimmer Alex Card (Jr.-Prior Lake, Minn.) took 10th place in the 100-yard breaststroke to earn All-American honorable mention status on day three of the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship at Conroe ISD Natatorium today.

Card finished the 100 breaststroke with a time of 56.11 seconds to take 10th. A season ago he finished in ninth place in the event.

Tomorrow, nationals will come to an end but two Blugolds will compete in two more events. Card will swim in the 200-yard breaststroke while Nick Badilla (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./North) will compete in the three-meter dive.

Nick Badilla Competes on Day Two of NCAA Championship

SHENANDOAH, Texas (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire men's diver Nick Badilla (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./North) competed in the one-meter dive on day two of the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship at Conroe ISD Natatorium today.

Badilla finished in 20th place out of 24 divers with 414.5 points. The top eight advance to finals while places 9-16 advance to consolation finals.

Friday at the championship, swimmer Alex Card (Jr.-Prior Lake, Minn.) will compete in the 100-yard breaststroke while both Card and Badilla will compete Saturday to wrap up nationals.

SHENANDOAH, Texas (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire men's swimmer Alex Card (Jr.-Prior Lake, Minn.) competed in the 200-yard individual medley on day one of the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship at Conroe ISD Natatorium today.

Card finished the 200 IM prelims with a time of 1:53.30 to take 35th place. The top 16 advance to the finals.

Thursday diver Nick Badilla (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./North) will compete in the one-meter dive. The championship will conclude Saturday.

One Swimmer, One Diver to Compete at NCAA Championship

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Two members of the UW-Eau Claire men's swimming and diving team will represent the Blugolds at the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship, which will be contested March 20-23 at the Conroe ISD Natatorium in Shenandoah, Texas.

Swimmer Alex Card (Jr.-Prior Lake, Minn.) will compete in three events. He will compete in the 200-yard individual medley Wednesday, the 100-yard breaststroke Friday and the 200-yard breaststroke Saturday.

This is the second straight year Card will be competing at nationals. Last season he earned All-American honors in the 200-yard breaststroke taking seventh place and in the 100-yard breaststroke finishing in ninth place. He holds school records in all three events that he will be competing in this year and was also the conference champion in all three events this season.

Diver Nick Badilla (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./North) also qualified for nationals and will compete in the one-meter Thursday and the three-meter Saturday.

Badilla is making his fourth straight appearance at nationals. He is a three-time All-American after taking 12th on the three-meter board in 2010, 14th on the one-meter and 16th on the three-meter two years ago. At the conference meet this year, he was runner-up in both events.
