EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team stayed undefeated at home as it dominated NCHA conference foe College of St. Scholastica 5-1 at the Hobbs Ice Center.
Scoring the first goal of the night was Andrew Wilcox (Sr.-Rochester Minn./Century) on a pass from Tyler Jundt (Sr.-Williston, ND/Williston) and Jordan Singer (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) in the first period at 8:11. Andrew McCabe (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) followed that up when he got the second goal, the game winning goal, at 18:29 off a pass from Jundt and Kurt Weston (Jr.-Roseau, Minn./Roseau).
The second period was an aggressive period with a total of 11 penalties being called on the two teams. The Blugolds were able to capitalize on one of those penalties, a power play goal at 13:54 by Singer. The Saints came back and found the net with their only goal of the night, a power play goal at 17:51.
Jared Williams (So.-West Chicago, Ill./Bartlett) started the third period out with a bang. He came out of the chutes fired up and ready to go. He was able to breakaway and find the back of the net within 31 seconds of the third period to length the Blugolds lead to 4-1. Leading scorer Singer sealed the deal with the final goal of the night a shot that made it in at 5:56.
Starting in the net for the Blugolds was Brandon Stephenson (Jr.-Saline, Mich./Saline). He had an impressive 33 saves on the night. After tonight's win, Stephenson improves to 2-1 on the season.
The Blugolds improve to 4-1-0 on the season with an NCHA conference record of 3-1-0. The Blugolds head to Duluth tomorrow night to have a rematch against St. Scholastica on their home turf. They will return home next weekend to the Hobbs Ice Center to take on the No. 3-ranked, according to the USCHO.com Division III Men's Poll as of November 7th, Green Knights of St. Norbert College. Game action will start at 7 p.m.
