Men's Golf Ties for Eighth in Spring Opener in Illinois

NORMAL, Ill. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team finished tied for eighth place out of 26 teams, opening the spring season at the Illinois Wesleyan Spring Invitational at Normal's Ironwood Golf Course after two days of competition.

The Blugolds finished with a two-day total of 630, tying with Nebraska Wesleyan University for eighth place. Illinois Wesleyan and Wheaton College (Ill.) both finished with 611 strokes to lead the field, but IWU won the tournament with a tiebreaker.

Sean Murphy (So.-Middleton, Wis.) led the Blugolds as he tied for 19th place with 155 strokes.

Tim McCormick (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Memorial) tied for 24th with 156 strokes and Ben Brooks (Jr.-Beaver Dam, Wis.) tied for 34th place with 158.

Tying for 54th with 161 strokes was Nick Bertram (Fr.-Onalaska, Wis.) while Alec Todryk (So.-Fond Du Lac, Wis./St. Mary's Springs Academy) shot 170 to tie for 96th place.

Illinois Wesleyan's Austin Craig led the 132-golfer field as he won with 149 strokes.

The Blugolds will be back in action Monday, April 15 at the UW-Stout Invitational at the Chippewa Valley Golf Club in Menomonie.
