2013-14 UWEC Athletes of the Week - Week 25 (Feb. 24-March 9)

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Three UW-Eau Claire student-athletes have been recognized by being named an Athlete of the Week for the 25th week of the 2013-14 season.

Softball

Position – Amanda Fischer, Right Field, 5-6, Junior, Wausau, Wis./West

Fischer, who started four games in right field, led the Blugolds in hitting as the team opened the season March 1-2 at the Rochester Dome Tournament. She recorded a team-high seven hits in 13 at-bats for a batting average of .538. Fischer had three extra base hits, two doubles and one home run, which came in the eighth inning against St. Norbert and helped lift the Blugolds to the extra-inning victory. She was second on the team with 12 total bases and had an on-base percentage of a .647 with a slugging percentage of .923. In two of the games, she led the team in RBI and hits. Fischer also led the team with five stolen bases as she went 5-for-5. In the field, she recorded one putout with no errors. The Blugolds started the year with a 3-1 record.

Pitcher – Laura Raflik, Righthanded Pitcher, 5-6, Junior, Plover, Wis./Pacelli

Raflik pitched in two games, starting one, as the Blugolds opened the season March 1-2 at the Rochester Dome Tournament. Starting against Loras College (Iowa) on Saturday, a game the Blugolds won 14-1 in five innings, she pitched 2.2 innings, striking out two batters while allowing one run and three hits. Sunday against St. Norbert College, she pitched 5.2 innings in a game the Blugolds came from behind to win 7-6 in eight innings. In that game she struck out two batters while giving up three hits and one unearned run. For the season she holds a 0.84 ERA, the lowest ERA on the team. The Blugolds started the year with a 3-1 record.


Men’s Tennis

Will Weyenberg, Freshman, Neenah, Wis.

With the Blugolds competing against two opponents over two days in Racine, Weyenberg played just one match and won. He picked up a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 6 singles against Carthage College on Saturday.
