EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Two UW-Eau Claire Athletics teams were in action today at UW-Platteville, women's basketball at home and men's basketball on the road.
UW-Eau Claire 69, UW-Platteville 58
The women's basketball team had little trouble getting by UW-Platteville in the final home game of the regular season, defeating the Pioneers 69-58 on Ken Anderson Court in Zorn Arena tonight. During an eight-minute stretch in the first half, the Blugolds outscored the Pioneers 20-8 to get up by 12 points. The closest the Pioneers got after that was six points. The Blugolds led by as many as 19 points, four times during the final 11 minutes. Teenie Lichtfuss led the Blugolds in scoring with 15 points.
UW-Platteville 60, UW-Eau Claire 34
The men's basketball team had trouble at UW-Platteville tonight, falling 60-34. The Pioneers had a dominant first half, taking a 36-15 lead into halftime. The second half was much better for the Blugolds, but it was too much of a deficit to overcome from the first half. The Pioneers still outscored the Blugolds in the second half, but it was only by a 24-19 margin. Adam Hjelter was the only player to break double digits in scoring for the Blugolds, finishing with 10 points and four rebounds.
