EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's and women's basketball teams were in action tonight, with the men hosting UW-Superior while the women were at UW-Superior.
UW-Superior 75, UW-Eau Claire 68
The men's basketball team led just once tonight as UW-Superior defeated the Blugolds 75-68 on Ken Anderson Court in Zorn Arena. It took the Blugolds nearly five minutes to get their first basket of the night as Superior built an 11-0 lead. The Yellowjackets led by as many as 12 points in the opening half, three times. In the second half, after Superior got back up by seven, the Blugolds then outscored the Yellowjackets 13-5 over a five-minute stretch to take their first lead of the night (59-58) with just over four minutes to play. But the Yellowjackets hung on after outscoring the Blugolds 17-9 the rest of the way to win by seven. Three Blugolds reached double digits in scoring with Jacob Kohner leading the way with 14 points.
UW-Superior 59, UW-Eau Claire 47
The women's basketball team held a lead nearly the entire first half, but UW-Superior controlled the second half to defeat the Blugolds 59-47 at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium tonight. The Blugolds opened the game with a 7-0 run, holding the Yellowjackets scoreless for more than six minutes. Eau Claire never trailed over the first 17 minutes, but Superior fought back and took its first lead of the night with less than three minutes before halftime. In the second half, the Yellowjackets led by as many as 13 points. Teenie Lichtfuss led the game in scoring with 19 points while also pulling down a team-high five rebounds.
