EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Schedules for all 22 UW-Eau Claire Athletics’ sports for the 2013-14 season are now available online.
The Blugolds will start the new season on Aug. 30 with women’s soccer and women’s volleyball competing on the road. At home during the first weekend will be women’s golf with its annual Doug Georgianni Memorial Invitational, Aug. 31-Sept. 1, while women’s tennis will host a pair of opponents Aug. 31.
Football will kick off its 2013 campaign on the road at 2012 NCAA Division III runner-up University of St. Thomas (Minn.). The Blugolds’ home opener is set for Sept. 28, which will also be the Hall of Fame Game. Homecoming is scheduled for Oct. 12.
Volleyball will host a unique event this season on Oct. 4 when the Blugolds take on UW-Platteville for their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night. However, this year’s event will take place in Zorn Arena rather than the McPhee Physical Education Center. The volleyball team has played in Zorn only a few times in history with the last time coming more than 20 years ago.
One major change this season is the elimination of men’s and women’s doubleheader basketball games on Saturdays, which have been standard for the last 10 years. The only exceptions are when the Blugolds take on UW-Stout in Menomonie on Jan. 4 and in Zorn Arena on Jan. 25. The women will play the first game of the doubleheader against Stout while the men will play second.
During the course of the 2013-14 season, more than 500 Blugold student-athletes will compete in over 400 events, more than a quarter of which will be contested in Eau Claire. Ticket information is posted at http://blugolds.com/information/tickets
