EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - UW-Eau Claire head football coach Todd Glaser announced the 2010 team award winners at the team's end-of-season banquet recently.
Four Blugolds earned awards this season.
Andy Neumann (Jr.-Germantown, Wis.) was named the team's defensive MVP. Neumann led the Blugolds with 77 tackles (60 solos, 17 assists), ranking sixth best in the league. He also had a team-high three sacks and seven tackles-for-loss while he forced two fumbles and had one recovery. He was named to the All-WIAC second team this year.
David Goodman (Jr.-Neenah, Wis.) and Joel Sweeney (Fr.-Tomah, Wis.) were named co-offensive MVPs, while Goodman also received special teams MVP recognition and Sweeny was named the offensive Newcomer of the Year.
Goodman, a wide receiver, led the Blugolds in receiving with 684 yards on 47 catches, a mark that tied for sixth best in the conference. His average of 68.4 yards per contest also ranked fifth in the league. Goodman also returned kicks and punts. He averaged 5.8 yards per punt return and 18.1 yards per kick return. Goodman also had the second highest all-purpose yards total (1089), which ranked seventh best in the conference. He received All-WIAC honorable mention recognition this season.
Sweeney, a running back, led the Blugolds and was third in the conference with 1,028 rushing yards in his first year with the team. The 1,028 yards is 14th best in a single season in program history and only 15 Blugolds have ever reached 1,000 rushing yards in a single season. Sweeney also had 217 rushing attempts, tied for 17th best in a single season, and had 12 rushing touchdowns, which tied for second best in the WIAC. He was named to the All-WIAC second team this year while also earning recognition on the D3football.com All-West Region third team.
Receiving defensive Newcomer of the Year honors was Nate Johnson (So.-Madison, Wis./LaFollette). He finished the season with 20 tackles (17 solo, three assists), including two sacks, tying for second most on the team. Johnson also broke up two passes and recovered a team-high two fumbles.
