Three Blugolds Earn WIAC Athlete of the Week Honors
MADISON, Wis. ( -The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey player Adam Knochenmus (Roseau, Minn.), women's hockey player Paige Turner (Iron River, Wis./Duluth East), and women's swimming freshman Sam Senczyzyn (Grafton, Wis.) have each been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, it was announced by Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations Matt Stanek.

Four Blugolds Earn WIAC Athlete of the Week Honors

Maplewood, MInn./North St. Paul), men's cross country runner Christian Leitner (Sr.-Red Wing, Minn.), women's cross country runner Lucy Ramquist (Sr.-River Falls, Wis.) and women's golfer Allison Chomniak (Fr.-Pewaukee, Wis./Hartland Arrowhead ) have each been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, it was announced today by Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations Matt Stanek.

Men's Golf - Tim McCormick, Senior, Madison, Wis./Memorial
Competing in three events this weekend, McCormick led the Blugolds twice. Monday at the Saint John’s University Spring Invitational, he tied for the Blugolds’ best finish, tied for 13th place with 73 strokes. Sunday at the Saint John’s University Winter Invitational, he tied for fifth with 143 strokes to lead the team. On Friday against UW-Stout, he tied for sixth with 73 strokes.

Men's Track - 4x400-Meter Relay: Jacob Dennis-Oehling, Junior, Whitewater, Wis.; Cody Prince, Sophomore, Appleton, Wis./North; Marty Richardson, Senior, Appleton, Wis./Kimberly; Thurgood Dennis, Sophomore, Allouez, Wis./Green Bay Notre Dame
After making noise at the Drake Relays last year, the 4x400-meter relay quartet of Jacob Dennis-Oehling, Cody Prince, Marty Richardson and Thurgood Dennis was back at Drake to defend their title they earned last year. And the defending Drake Relays champions did not disappoint, narrowly beating Lincoln (Mo.) in the 4x400-meter relay with a school record time of 3:08.31 Saturday afternoon at the prestigious meet in Des Moines, Iowa. The Blugolds' time at this year's Drake Relays betters their 2012 time by more than two seconds and also bests the school record time of 3:10.57 that was set in 1990. The defending Indoor National champions are now ranked first in the NCAA Division III and were also shown on ESPN hours after the meet.

Softball - Pitcher: Emma Wishau, Lefthanded Pitcher, 5-11, Junior, Burlington, Wis./Waterford Union
Playing in five out of eight games this week, Wishau helped the Blugolds to a 5-3 record pitching a total of 19.2 innings while also recording eight at-bats. She started the week Thursday against UW-Stout and also won game one Friday against River Falls, pitching five innings in each game. Saturday in game one against 13th-ranked UW-Whitewater, Wishau pitched a complete game and gave up only three hits as the Blugolds won 2-0. She also saw time in the circle in game two against the Warhawks while helping the Blugolds to a 2-1 win in game one against UW-Platteville on Sunday. Wishau finished the week with 10 strikeouts and a 3-1 record with a 2.49 ERA. She also made an impact on offense as she recorded two RBI and went 3-for-8 (.375 batting average) with one double during the week.

Softball - Position: Amanda Fischer, Outfielder/Catcher, 5-6, Sophomore, Wausau, Wis./West
Fischer started eight games this week as the Blugolds played four straight days (Thursday-Sunday) and finished the week with a 5-3 record. She played catcher in three games while playing in right field in all eight contests. Thursday in game two against UW-Stout, Fischer played a key role in the Blugolds’ 12-9 win in 10 innings. In the top of the first, she hit a three-run homer, and in the top of the 10th with the score tied 9-9, she hit another three-run home run to give the Blugolds the 12-9 lead. For the week, she went 12-for-26 (.462 batting average) with two homers and a triple. She finished with a team-high nine runs and 10 RBI and led the Blugolds with 20 total bases and a .769 slugging percentage. Fischer had two sacrifices and stole six bases out of seven attempts. On defense, she recorded 29 putouts with three assists and no errors.

Women's Golf - Catherine Wagner, Senior, Austin, Minn.
Wagner, who was in second place after day one after shooting 75, completed 18 holes Sunday with 77 strokes for a total of 152 (+8) to earn medalist honors at the Carleton College Invitational. She edged St. Olaf College's Molly Erickson, who finished with 153. A total of 47 golfers competed in this year's event, where the Blugolds finished in second place out of nine teams.

Women's Outdoor Track - Ashlyn Mauer, Senior, Sheboygan Falls, Wis.
Competing at the 47th Annual Hillsdale College Gina Relays this weekend, Mauer took fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:37.98, with only one person from NCAA Division III beating her. Mauer’s time is currently the top time in the WIAC by almost 40 seconds while she ranks fourth in Division III.

Women's Tennis - Maddie Johnson, Sophomore, Lakeville, Minn./South
With the Blugolds splitting this weekend to take second place at the WIAC Team Tournament in Whitewater, Johnson went 1-1 in singles and 1-1 in doubles play. Against UW-La Crosse, which the Blugolds beat 5-2, Johnson won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles while she and partner Gretchen Bachmeier won 9-7 at No. 2 doubles. Facing UW-Whitewater, she had the closest match of the day but came up short 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
