2012-13 UWEC Athletes of the Week - Week 22 (Feb. 4-10)

February 10, 2013
Men's Basketball - Nick Craggs, Forward, 6-6, 215, Senior, Kimberly, Wis.
Playing just one game this week, Craggs led the Blugolds in scoring and rebounding in a 70-54 loss to UW-Stout. He finished the game with a double-double, scoring 16 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. He also had a game-high five steals and two blocks while also finishing with one assist.

Men's Hockey - Jordan Singer, Forward, 6-0, 196, Senior, Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial
Playing in two games this week, Singer helped the Blugolds to their first outright NCHA title in program history as the team split. In a 4-1 victory Saturday at UW-Superior, Singer scored the game’s first goal on a power-play, 13 seconds before the end of the first period. At 7:56 in the second period, he scored what eventually proved to be the game-winner. For the season, Singer now has 18 goals, most in the NCHA, and 30 points.

Men's Field - Roger Steen, Sophomore, Luck, Wis.
Competing in two events at the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) Invitational on Friday, Steen won one event while placing in another. He took first in the shot put with a toss of 16.70 meters (54-9.5) and took third in the weight throw with a distance of 16.10 meters (52-10).

Men's Track - Thurgood Dennis, Sophomore, Allouez, Wis./Green Bay Notre Dame
Competing at the 2013 Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa on Saturday, Dennis finished in fourth place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.96. The mark was the fastest time in the WIAC so far this year. He also ran on the 4x400-meter relay team that finished with the second fastest time in the WIAC this season as they took eighth with a time of 3:17.78.

Men's Tennis - Brayden Parman, Junior, Beaver Dam, Wis.
Parman went undefeated in two No. 5 singles match this weekend in Sartell, Minn. Against Michigan Tech, he won 6-7, 6-1, 10-3 and followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win over St. Cloud State, Minn. As a team, the Blugolds split wins, falling to Michigan Tech 6-3 and beating St. Cloud 8-1.

Women's Basketball - Sarah Bingea, Forward, 6-0, Senior, Delano, Minn.
Playing just one game this week, Bingea reached 1,000 career points as she helped lead the team to an 81-70 victory over UW-Stout on Saturday. Bingea needed just 13 points headed into Saturday’s game to reach the milestone and with just over three minutes remaining in the game, she hit two free throws to put her at 1,000 points. She is just the 16th Blugold in history to reach the mark. Bingea finished the game with 13 points, third most on the team, while leading the Blugolds with 10 rebounds and tying for a game-high four assists.

Women's Gymnastics: Specialist - Rachel Behmer, Senior, Maple Grove, Minn./West Lutheran
Behmer helped lead the Blugolds to a 183.550-181.925 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Friday at Kolf Sports Center. She tied for first in the uneven parallel bars with a season-high 9.475.

Women's Hockey - Kim Van Brunt, Goalie, 5-5, Freshman, Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines
Van Brunt played 60 minutes in-goal Saturday and recorded her first collegiate shutout as the Blugolds defeated Finlandia University (Mich.) 3-0. She made 13 saves and improved to 3-0 on the season.

Women's Track - Jessie Reineck, Freshman, Greenville, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran
Competing in two events at the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) Invitational on Friday, Reineck won one event while placing in another. She won the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.25 seconds, the only competitor to finish in less than a minute, and the fifth fastest time in the WIAC this season. Reineck also anchored the Blugolds’ 4x400-meter team that took second with a time of 3:58.43.

February 10, 2013
Wrestling - Nathaniel Behnke, 141 Pounds, Bruce, Wis.
Competing at 141 pounds at the Blugold Open this weekend, Behnke took second place and finished with a 4-1 record on the day. He won four straight matches to advance to the championship and then fell 4-2 to Rylan Lubeck from NCAA Division I University of Wisconsin-Madison to take second.
