2012-13 UWEC Athletes of the Week - Week 14 (Nov. 26-Dec. 2)

Men's Basketball - Lewis Mau, Guard, 6-3, 190, Sophomore, Colfax, Wis.
Mau averaged 18.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game this week as the Blugolds went 2-1. Monday in a 71-58 win over Loras College (Iowa), Mau scored 11 points while leading Eau Claire with six rebounds. Wednesday as the Blugolds beat the College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) 84-70, Mau reached a career-high 21 points to lead the game and also had a career-high eight assists while leading the Blugolds with seven rebounds. Mau then scored a new career-high with 23 points Saturday while he also tied for a team-high six rebounds but the Blugolds dropped the game 84-69 to UW-La Crosse in the WIAC opener. For the week, Mau shot 45.7 percent from the field (16-for-35) and was 15-for-18 (83.3 percent) from the free throw line. He also had four steals.

Men's Hockey - Daniel Olszewski, Forward, 5-11, 203, Junior, Janesville, Wis./Craig
Olszewski had a five-point weekend as the Blugolds split against UW-Stevens Point. Friday in a 5-2 victory over the Pointers, Olszewski scored the Blugolds’ first goal of the night at 8:29 in the first period on a power-play. He assisted on two Eau Claire goals in the second period, including one that eventually proved to be the game-winner. Saturday he picked up two more assists, both in the second period, on goals that helped the Blugolds to a 3-2 lead by the end of the period. But Stevens Point tied the game in the third and went on to score an overtime goal to hand the Blugolds their first loss of the year. For the season, Olszewski is fourth on the team with 13 points (five goals, eight assists).

Men's Swimming - Alex Strom, Junior, Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata
At the Rochester Invitational this weekend, hosted by St. Cloud State University (Minn.), Strom helped the Blugolds to a fifth place finish out of eight teams. His best finish came in the 400-yard individual medley when he took seventh with a time of 4:25.76.

Women's Basketball - Sarah Bingea, Forward, 6-0, Senior, Delano, Minn.
With two victories this week, including one over conference opponent UW-La Crosse to open WIAC play, Bingea averaged a double-double with 13.5 points and 11.5 rebounds. Thursday as the Blugolds beat Wartburg College (Iowa) 47-45, Bingea led the game with 12 points and 12 rebounds. She followed that performance Saturday with 15 points and 11 rebounds and the Blugolds beat UW-La Crosse 63-55. For the week, she also finished with three steals, two assists and one block.

Wrestling - Nathaniel Behnke, 141 Pounds, Freshman, Bruce, Wis.
Competing in four dual meets this weekend at the Candlewood Suites Duals at UW-La Crosse on Saturday, Behnke won all four of his 141 pound matches, all coming by fall. Against Cornell College (Iowa), Behnke won in 2:05 over Ray Feliz-Taveras. He followed with a win over Darius Leopaul of Waldorf College (Iowa) in 2:03 and then pinned Greg Vance of Loras College (Iowa) in 2:42. Behnke ended the day with a pin in 4:05 over Evan Guffey of Saint John’s University (Minn.).

Women's Swimming - Abby Meyer, Junior, Apple Valley, Minn.
At the Rochester Invitational this weekend, hosted by St. Cloud State University (Minn.), Meyer helped the Blugolds to a seventh place finish out of 11 teams. Her best finish came in the 200-yard freestyle relay as she and the Blugolds took sixth place with a time of 1:39.70.

Women's Hockey - Dani Kerr, Forward, 5-5, Senior, Little Canada, Minn./Roseville
Kerr helped the Blugolds sweep St. Norbert College this weekend. Saturday, a game the Blugolds won 4-3, Kerr assisted on the Blugolds’ third goal of the game. The second period was a big one for Eau Claire as the Blugolds scored all four of their goals in that period. Sunday she scored twice to help lift the Blugolds to a 3-2 overtime victory. Kerr scored Eau Claire’s first goal in the first period and late in the third period, she scored again which tied the game at two and sent it into overtime. At 2:35 in overtime, Stephanie Hatcher scored the game-winner to allow the Blugolds to stay undefeated since Nov. 10.
