Men's Indoor Field - Tony Sigrist, Senior, Byron, Minn.Sigrist tied a school record as he took second place with a toss of 19.83 meters (65-0.75) in the 35-pound weight throw as the Blugolds finished fourth at the Eastbay/Pointer Invite on Saturday. His distance, which is the second best in the nation this year, was the same distance Sam Johnson threw the 35-pound weight to win the 2009 national title.
Men's Indoor Track - Thurgood Dennis, Freshman, Allouez, Wis./Green Bay Notre DameAt the Eastbay/Pointer Invite on Saturday, Dennis helped the Blugolds to a fourth place finish. He was part of the winning 4x400-meter relay team while taking third in the 60-meter dash. The 4x400-meter relay team won with a time of 3:19.17, just one second short of a school record. The time was also the fifth fastest in the nation so far this year. He also finished with a time of 6.94 seconds in the 60-meter dash.
Women's Basketball - Callie Halama, Forward, 5-11, Senior, Independence, Wis.Halama helped the Blugolds to two wins this week as the Blugolds captured a share of the WIAC title for the first time since the 2007-08 season. Saturday in a 66-55 win over UW-Stevens Point on Senior Day, Halama had a career day as she led the Blugolds with 27 points and 13 rebounds, both of which were career-bests. Ten of her rebounds came on the offensive end. Halama played a key role in the second half as she scored 17 of her 27 points. Wednesday in a 75-48 win over UW-Platteville, Halama went 5-for-5 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the free throw line as she scored 14 points. She also pulled down six rebounds.
Women's Hockey - Toni Simones, Forward, 5-4, Senior, Rosemount, Minn./South St. PaulSimones ended her NCHA regular season career with two goals for the Blugolds, helping them to a weekend sweep and shutout of Finlandia. On Friday night, Simones had two goals. Her first came in the second period when she fired one up and over the goalies glove. She then got the final goal in the third period to clinch the Blugolds 5-0 shutout. Saturday, she started the game and helped the Blugolds to a 5-0 win over the Lions. This season, Simones ranks second on the team with nine goals and 16 points.
Women's Indoor Track - Jordanne Greenup, Senior, Fridley, Minn.Greenup was part of the winning 4x400-meter relay team and also had a very good time in the 60-meter dash, competing only in preliminaries, as the Blugolds finished in fourth place at the Eastbay/Pointer Invite on Saturday. She completed the 60-meter race in 7.84 seconds, the second fastest time in the conference this season, in preliminaries while the eventual winner recorded a time of 7.86 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay team won with a time of 3:57.74.
